Madeline's Story

Far and Away, but Finding Home in the Pediatric BMT Unit

Living with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma was very difficult for Madeline. She was in a lot of pain and had a difficult time keeping food down. A stem cell transplant was her best option.

Doctors at UCLA Medical Center recommended that she come to University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview -- because of our Pediatric BMT program's history of innovation and expertise in umbilical cord blood transplantation. After a double-cord transplant in August 2006, Madeline is on the mend. She's feeling much better and making progress in her recovery.

Madeline is from Las Vegas, so she doesn't have any friends or family here. But she doesn't feel lonely. "I love the doctors here," says Madeline. "And everyone is nice and friendly ... nurses, aides, everyone."
